About Us
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization. Its more than 1.2 million members volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.
The Yadkin Valley Rotary Club is comprised of business owners, executives, professionals, both active and retired, who are united in serving the global, national, and local communities. We meet each Wednesday, 7:45 am at the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott in Elkin, NC.
Visiting Rotarians and Rotarian's guests are always welcome.
The Yadkin Valley Rotary Club serves citizens in a three county region where Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin Counties borders join at Elkin/Jonesville.
We are an active club of volunteers serving our larger community with the following projects and activities.
- Rotary International Area of Focus: Basic Education and
Literacy
- Individual members from our club read to children in schools
- Intermittently we raise money for books to donate to school libraries
- We supported local
literacy by teaching Rotarians how to screen for dyslexia. We used a
free tool, an
online dyslexia test,
to screen for dyslexia. This free tool identifies children at risk for
dyslexia.
Working with the Dyslexia Services Foundation we identified children who failed the screener but could not afford services. We raised money through a fundraiser (a Duck & Turtle Regatta) and were awarded a Rotary District Grant match to fund services for these children. - We encourage other Rotary Clubs to join in this dyslexia screening and treatment project and our members have spoken at a number of other Rotary Clubs about dyslexia.
